St. Andrew's Cathedral + Wentworth by the Sea Country Club

Did you know that the wedding photographer spends more time with the Bride than the Maid of Honor? In the case of queer couples, I’m not sure. At this very Catholic celebration, the goal was, again, for me to capture seasoned photographer Kelly Lorenz in action while becoming familiar with the technical aspects of photographing a wedding. This was my 2nd wedding and both were interesting, beautiful and enlightening experiences—very much in contrast to the work I’m known for.
On this day, I was intentional in wondering about the in-between moments. I was interested in how kids manage their time throughout a lengthy and formal day, counting how many times they were reminded of cake as a bribe to behave. I was curious about the couple as they followed their photographer first individually, then together after the “first look.” How and when the photographer gives direction. The weight of the photographer’s gear as she bounces around. Its almost uncomfortable. How grown-ups manage their anxiety on what is arguably a very stressful and important day. And I was looking for the ways love and compassion always find their way into a space.
