A Queer couple adopts transracially through foster care & invites me to spend a vacation day with their budding family. What began with breakfast at their AirBnb wrapped with a simple trip to the beach, cradled in the magnificence that is Lake Tahoe.
What I love most here is the interplay between love and struggle. The evidence of compassion in the simplest of touch balanced by the exhaust inherent in finding rhythm as a new family. The vastness of kinship, the intimacy of connection - there is so much love in these photographs. To not see it is to show up to the mountain's edge after the sun has set & to miss out on all the glory the bend of the earth had to offer.
This is a day in the life of a family of 5 finding their way.
